Blog introduction
Over a period of eighteen years, spanning from February 2006 to February 2024, Michel Potay, better known as Brother Michel, consistently updated his blog by writing no fewer than 249 posts (numbered from 4 to 253), thereby creating a considerable and valuable archive of his prophetic thought.
In its early days, this blog had an intimate and personal character. Michel Potay wrote on his homepage: “A blog is a non-periodical memoir, a diary of the soul. In this one, the witness of The Sign (or of The Revelation of Arès), Michel Potay, notes down whatever is inspired in him by current events in the world or within the Aresian brotherhood, his spiritual life, or simply his own thoughts.”
The format was simple at the time: short articles, published at regular intervals, attracting few comments and eliciting few responses from the witness, Michel Potay. Nothing at the time foreshadowed the scale this initiative would eventually take on. Yet, over the years, this blog was to experience remarkable growth, gradually transforming into a true spiritual reference point, recognised and consulted by an ever-increasing number of readers. As his thinking unfolded and became more refined, the prophet’s responses gained in depth and his teachings reached ever more dizzying heights of spiritual elevation. Michel Potay wished to help his companions free themselves from the invisible shackles of preconceived notions, whether traditional or religious, for the true growth of the soul begins with a sincere questioning of everything one believes one knows.
Through this blog, Brother Michel Potay has chosen a special forum to convey his thoughts, his teachings (Le Signe, 39/1) and his spiritual vision to those closest to him in the Arean faith and in the mission. It is above all to his sisters and brothers, his faithful companions, and especially to the members of the small remnant (Signe 24/1), that he wished to address his writings. For him, this blog represented a living link, a connecting thread enabling him to remain in regular contact with them, to nourish them spiritually and to guide them, despite the distances or circumstances that might have separated them. Brother Michel thus offered all his readers insightful advice and profound reflections. For it must be emphasised: he did not create this space to talk about himself. He had nothing particular to say about himself, and that was not his intention anyway. His approach was entirely focused on others, on serving all those in search of Light. In this sense, this blog embodied something greater and deeper than a mere platform for expression: it was the site of a true prophetic transmission. One might say that this was a sort of “generation of prophets by the prophet”, seeking to awaken, strengthen and nurture in each of his readers the capacity to hear, understand and, in turn, carry the Word that had been entrusted to them.
Furthermore, for those who know little or nothing of the Pilgrims of Arès, these writings offer a unique opportunity to discover their faith and their movement in a clear and faithful manner. A movement of which Brother Michel is the natural founder and central spiritual figure, the one who, through his teachings and the witness of his life, laid its foundations and charted its course. One need only browse Michel Potay’s blog to appreciate the remarkable open-mindedness of the Pilgrims of Arès, both spiritually and humanly. There one discovers men and women who might more accurately be described as loving, journeying together towards a single, profound aspiration: Goodness. What brings them together is neither an established religion, nor a structured ideology, nor the systems of thought or collective organisation that usually stem from such things, but a central conviction, already present in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew chapters 5 to 7): “It is not what we believe that saves us, but the love, forgiveness, peace and freedom we give.” Indeed, this blog returns tirelessly to this founding idea: every human being, believer or not, can build their life—in their actions, relationships and most intimate aspirations—upon a principle of disconcerting and magnificent simplicity: that of active and unconditional love, accessible to all, and requiring as its sole starting point only a sincere desire to change for the better, for the Truth is that the world must change (Le Signe, 28/7).
Michel Potay passed away on 9 March 2025, leaving behind a blog of considerable spiritual richness, the fruit of eighteen years of writing, reflection and uninterrupted exchange. This digital legacy, precious as it is, has now become a challenge for anyone wishing to explore it seriously: with its 249 entries and over 10,000 comments and replies accumulated over the years, navigating it has become arduous, and reading it, often daunting. Yet, behind this apparent complexity lies a spiritual heritage of exceptional value. Throughout these countless pages, Michel Potay has scattered teachings of rare depth on themes as fundamental as love for one’s neighbour, freedom (Le Signe, 10/10), non-duality, metaphysics, the Arean mission, and the spiritual transformation that is penance. Each of these entries, each of these exchanges, contains pearls of wisdom that deserve to be read and passed on to future generations. These treasures remained scattered, buried in the continuous flow of spontaneous dialogues, improvised questions and contextual answers. They were trapped in a form which, whilst lively and organic at the time of their creation and during Michel Potay’s lifetime, often made their systematic study particularly laborious and their faithful transmission almost impossible. It became urgent, indeed necessary, to work on gathering, structuring and showcasing this legacy, so that it might continue to enlighten, inspire and guide all those who seek.
The absence of an integrated search engine further compounded this difficulty, depriving the reader of a tool that is nevertheless indispensable for navigating such a dense and varied corpus. Consulting the site thus became more of a meandering journey than a study, at the risk of discouraging even the most motivated.
This organisation, which was, all things considered, natural for a personal blog that had developed gradually in step with inspiration and exchanges, thus revealed its limitations when it came to turning it into a genuine tool for study or dissemination. For a new reader wishing to methodically familiarise themselves with the thought of Brother Michel Potay, entering this blog could prove disorienting, due to the lack of clear signposts and a thematic structure that would have facilitated their progress. What had been conceived as a space for spontaneous and lively sharing ultimately came up against the demands of a wider and more organised dissemination of the prophetic teaching.
Convinced that these texts are too valuable to remain so difficult to access, too important to remain scattered, it therefore became necessary to rethink their presentation to facilitate reading, from simple discovery to in-depth study. We have chosen to respect the history of this blog and its chronology. Here, therefore, are the 249 entries, organised by year. For each entry, we have created a ‘Thematic Collection’ of Brother Michel Potay’s spiritual teachings drawn from his responses to the original comments. We have organised them by spiritual topic, making them easy to consult, whilst fully preserving their original teachings and authenticity. By grouping these teachings—which cover a wide range of spiritual, philosophical, human and social topics—by theme, we enable readers to better grasp their overall unity. Regular readers of this blog will also rediscover these texts in a presentation that prioritises clarity, simplicity and accessibility.
We wanted to create much more than a simple collection: a genuine spiritual tool, designed to endure and to serve both personal study and the living transmission of a legacy to the generations that will follow us. This work has been accomplished with a keen awareness of its significance over time. For we have, from the outset, had in mind the readers and researchers of tomorrow. A man or woman who, in ten years, twenty years, fifty years’ time, will be touched by the spiritual call of the Sign, will be able to sit down and discover these teachings in all their depth, with as much clarity, strength and vitality, if not more, as those who received and lived them over the years, from 2006 to 2026. Nothing will be lost, nothing will be diminished by the passage of time; quite the contrary. This new presentation reveals, with renewed clarity, the full richness of the thought of a man whose influence, far from fading, will continue to spread throughout the world, like a light whose full intensity and scope we gradually come to appreciate with the benefit of hindsight.
We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to all those who have made the creation of this new version possible. Each of their contributions, whether technical, creative or personal, has brought inestimable value to this collective endeavour. This website is, above all, the result of teamwork and could never have seen the light of day without their invaluable help. What began as nothing more than an idea has come to life and taken shape as a work of which we are proud.
Enjoy reading.
